Today I awake to a world in crisis. The coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate around the world and in our nation. Twenty-four hours ago I was able to go where I pleased. Today, I am required to stay home and practice self-isolation.
In the midst of all this, I read and listened to a very encouraging word from God’s Word from the book of Jeremiah. God, speaking through Jeremiah said: “Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8) What an amazing promise!
What is even more interesting is Jeremiah said this in the midst of BAD Times. Because of the nation of Judah’s rebellion and idolatry, Jerusalem was soon to be destroyed and its inhabitants killed or taken into Babylonian captivity. The future was not looking bright—in fact disaster was eminent. Jeremiah knew this because God had told him what was going to happen. Yet, God spoke to Jeremiah the wonderful words of encouragement we read in Jeremiah 17:7-8.
I am uplifted today because although everything around me looks bleak on the surface, I can count on God if I put my trust in Him wholeheartedly. My plan during this time of being in “lock-down” is to spend more time trusting God. I pray you will do the same.
