Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” Covid-19 has wreaked havoc. Churches here in California were closed for months, then opened, then closed again. Church “on-line” became the norm for many. But that is not really “assembling together.”
So we came up with an alternative plan: we would have “church on the lawn.” Making a flyer announcing it to people in the neighborhood seem a good idea. So last Wednesday morning I sat down in front of the computer to create the flyer. As is my normal routine, I was listening to the Bible being read on my YouVersion Bible phone app. I had started listening when I first awakened at 2 Corinthians 12 (the chapter where the “Verse of the Day” was.) It was now several hours later and I still had my Bible app going and reading when I sat down and opened Adobe Photoshop. Just in the middle of making the flyer, I heard “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.” I did a double take, stopped and read the verse I had just heard being read to me. Wow! That is the “go to” verse when Christians speak of the importance of church attendance. And that verse is eleven books removed from where I began listening. How could it be I am hearing this verse about the importance of the church assembling just at this particular moment when I am working on a handout inviting people to join us for church! I thought: “This is a God-thing: it can’t be coincidence!”
But that’s not the end. The next morning the same thing happened. I turned on my phone Bible in the early hours of the morning as I lay in bed praying and meditating and sleeping (gotta be honest). This day, the YouVersion “Verse of the Day” was 1 Corinthians 3:16 so I began listening there. Again, hours later as I continue to have my phone Bible app reading to me in the background, I sat down to tweak the flyer I had made the morning before. And again, just as I started working on the flyer I heard Hebrews 10:25 about “not forsaking the assembling…” being read. Double wow! This passage is twelve books later. I don’t know what you all think, but I BELIEVE GOD just spoke to me! I’m EXCITED!
